Richmond Marathon Training Week 3

They say that marathon training is not just a training of the body;  It's a deep training of the mind. This weeks training has truly helped  to open up and expand my mind. I am blooming as a runner but more so as a human being. Monday: July 3rd  So it's the day before the holiday and like many Americans I too am tied to my desk.. yay! I am thankful for my job and thankful for the day off tomorrow so not too much whining over here!  This day became a defaulted rest day. After all the miles I did yesterday at MTT followed by 10 hours at work and then  going home and grilled for 8. Tuesday:  It's the holiday.  What does that mean.. go running dah lol!  It was sooooooo humid out which makes for a slow run. The hardest part of the run was the uncontrollable burning sensation between my thighs. It is HIGHLY suggested that when putting on your glide you do not rush. It will leave streaks in which your thighs may slap together causin...

Richmond Marathon Training Week 2

Monday: Still no information from my coaches so after my workout I emailed Sports Backers just to make sure I did the registration correctly.   My plan for today was to do as I was told but I wasn't told yet I went back to good old Hal Higdon's Novice Marathon training and it called for strength and stretch. The latter was much needed after the 7miler on Sunday. Normally it would have been a lunch break workout but I waited until I was off so I could do it with my husband.    The Workout: Nike+ Train App: Trunks and Branches      Warm- Up:   60 Sec Inchworm 10 sec Push- Ups 40 sec Body weight Squat 40 sec Push- Ups 40 sec hip lifts 30 sec Push- Ups 30 crab reaches Total Body Strength:3 sets of 30 seconds of each of t...

Marathon Training Week 1 & Day 1 of MTT

Prior to signing up for the Sports Backers Marathon Training team on Friday, June 23, I started to get back in my swing of workouts. Whether I was going to actual do the marathon or not I still have to prep for my half marathon in September. Labor day weekend, weather permitting, I will have be tackling my first beach run at Virginia Beach Rock and Roll half Marathon . Here is the recap of my training for Monday June 19th- Sunday June 25th: Monday: It felt like I was starting all over. Then again I truly was starting over. I hadn't worked out since prior to June and my last run was a Corporate 5k the second week of June. I started off slowly, on my lunch break like usual. I pulled up my Nike Plus Training app and picked a workout that was aimed towards endurance. I like having the opportunity to pick what I'm working on.   The workout : Plank Jump   It started of with a warm up which consisted of 20 seconds of each of the following workouts:  ...

I think I want to run a marathon…

I think I’m ready I mean.. you know to run a marathon.  I’ve been here before, at the end of last year with all the solo running I was doing. The completion of not 1 but 2 half marathons, solo, had me thinking it was time to conquer the beast… 26.2. Well life happened, a bone spur later I sat most of January and my dreams of completing my first marathon in March of this year was out the window.  In March  I felt the want again, it was pulling on me like the ocean does when I goes back out to sea. Like when you place your ear to sea shell and you can hear the waves , id plant my feet on the pavement and I’d hear it call out to me.. that tricky 26.2.  I created my own challenge, it was to show me that I can do anything. I ran a 10k on April 1 followed by a half marathon on April 2 and I was able to convince part of me.. I could do this! The other part of me  logically broke down the fact that 19.31 was still a 10k short of 26.2 and the food , rest and ice ...

Wednesday Word: Imagination

I'm trying something new today, well let me be real.. I've been trying something new everyday lately and loving!!!  We will talk more about all the other new stuff later. Today I am trying my first linkup. I've linked up with Deb Runs  for her Wednesday Word . The rules are simple and I'm excited to add to the blog. Please let me know what you think by commenting below. Today's word is : Imagination  Imagination is a powerful tool. It's fueled by creativity and the freedom to be uniquely you. I embrace my imagination. I enjoy our times together in far away lands. Dancing to the drums in the amazon but home in time for dinner every night. Singing with my ancestors down in the Bayou while attending corporate meetings. My imagination, ooh she is a strong one. She takes me through PRs on my runs, hitting paces I've never run.. was that 5:10 oh my slow down. I've run the Wall of China, skipped through sugar cane fields with my grandfather in Cuba.  ...
