Richmond Marathon Training Week 3

They say that marathon training is not just a training of the body;  It's a deep training of the mind.

This weeks training has truly helped  to open up and expand my mind. I am blooming as a runner but more so as a human being.

Monday: July 3rd

So it's the day before the holiday and like many Americans I too am tied to my desk.. yay! I am thankful for my job and thankful for the day off tomorrow so not too much whining over here!  This day became a defaulted rest day. After all the miles I did yesterday at MTT followed by 10 hours at work and then  going home and grilled for 8.

Tuesday:

It's the holiday.  What does that mean.. go running dah lol!
It was sooooooo humid out which makes for a slow run. The hardest part of the run was the uncontrollable burning sensation between my thighs. It is HIGHLY suggested that when putting on your glide you do not rush. It will leave streaks in which your thighs may slap together causing chaffing..this is not fun!
I love when he runs with me... especially when we match!

Wednesday:

The day of failing plans. I didn't want to wake up, so I slept in. Sleep is important right? The plan was to get off of work and check out those rolling hills I found last week.  On my lunch break I decided to check out my gym's abs class.
Great workout! Abs were sore for days!
My work day ended with thunderstorms. ugh! At this moment I was so frustrated with myself. I could have got my run done this morning instead I waited. My punishment.. the treadmill followed by walking in the chilly rainy sweaty to my car.
4 miles felt more like 8 miles on that thing but it taught me to prepare better. Be aware of the weather and do NOT procrastinate.

Thursday:

5 am the sound of dogs woke me from my sleep. No I don't have dogs, it's my alarm and it was time to run some hills! The MTT training plan called for 3 miles and hill repeats.

Last week I thought the runs were on Wednesday. I was wrong. So Thursday morning is for now, Hillday.  I was oh too excited not to have to drive to Richmond as the group was meeting at 6am. I pulled up at Sibley's in Chester, about 25 minutes from my house and was greeted by several women that ran the group. In total 5 of us ran the 8 hill repeats then ran back to the car. It was only a total of 2.2  miles so Catherine, a young lady I met that morning, and I ran some additional miles to make our 3 mile requirement for MTT.

Friday:

Rest day!

Saturday:

The family and I took the four hour car ride to Maryland for my God sons 3rd birthday! The MTT schedule called for cross training. I didn't cross train per say but I did do lots of running in the pool and chasing of toddlers.

Sunday:

MTT day! I now look forward to these days. The training plan called for 5 miles with a start time of 6:30am. Ugh. So 5 am again I was up and getting my life in order. It was a fun run with ladies of MTT. I truly enjoy having Louise and Jacki to run and chat with.

I love how my miles have stayed consistent. I feel stronger and more controlled on my runs. Beyond that my cadence has grown while my heart rate stayed low.

We stopped for a photo op with the only polar bear in RVA (I think).

Upcoming:

I am looking forward to Tuesday July 11th and Saturday July 15th. So much new things happening in my life! Tuesday  I will get the chance to speak on a panel to a group of girls at the 1st  Richmond Fit4Kids Game On Girl Summit Panel at the University of Richmond. I can't wait to share my love of fitness with these young ladies. Saturday the 15th I start training to become a Fitness warrior. I am looking forward to bringing free fitness classes to underserved areas in the Tri-cities.

Kill Gym Funk with Vinegar!

Vinegar and gym funk? Say what! Yup Vinegar can kill gym funk. If you've been in the kitchen, watched Doctor Oz or ever did research on losing weight you've heard the word vinegar before. Health nuts drink the red type. Red vinegar is actually used by a number of naturalist to clean their hair and flush fat. White vinegar was a staple in my childhood as my mom used it to clean chicken, wash mirrors and windows and after one trip to Canada, wash clothes. Those of you in the laundry business know what I am talking about. My mom's cousin owned his own laundry mat in Ontario, Canada. One summer changed the course of laundry in my home. Uncle Carl, as I called him, told mom he placed white vinegar in the washing machines to help brighten and whiten the clothes. Over the years I got away from using vinegar on all my loads but recently came back to it. Here are 5 reasons why you should consider using vinegar in your laundry, especially your gym clothes today. 1. Ki
